Sunil Gavaskar's Hilarious Take on Yashasvi Jaiswal's Century
Yashasvi Jaiswal, the young Indian batter, continued his stellar form in Test cricket, scoring a magnificent 175 in India's first innings against the West Indies. This was his seventh century and fifth 150-plus score, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar as the Indian batter with the most 150-plus scores at just 23 years old. Only Australia's Don Bradman, with eight such scores before turning 24, surpasses Jaiswal's achievement.
After the match, Sunil Gavaskar, a legendary cricketer, made a funny remark about Jaiswal's performance. "Keep scoring daddy hundreds," he said, playfully referring to the fact that Jaiswal's century was his seventh. Then, with a twist, Gavaskar added, "But because I am a grandfather, I will take it as a grandaddy hundred."
Despite his impressive performance, Jaiswal's innings came to an end on Day 2 when he was run out after adding just two runs. He was involved in a mix-up with Shubman Gill, leading to his dismissal. Jaiswal remained composed, stating, "I always try to play as long as I can. It's part of the game."
He added, "I focus on achieving my goals and my team's goals. When I'm in, I aim to bat for as long as possible. The wicket is still good, and we're bowling well. We'll get to them quickly and bowl them out again."
India declared their innings at 518 for 5, and the West Indies responded with 140 for 4 at stumps.
